Have you ever tried Oil Pulling?
No?! It seems like more and more people are trying it. Think of it as an oil based mouthwash that people in the western world are now using as a part of their daily oral care routine.
Where did they get this idea?
Well it all started 5000 years ago in India as part of an Ayurvedic daily routine called "dinacharya”.
Oils are highly revered in Ayurveda, as a matter of fact the Sanskrit word for oil, sneha, which also means love.
But not all oils are the same, Raw cold pressed unrefined sesame and sunflower oils are most primarily indicated in Ayurvedic texts due to their mineral profile as it is especially great for the teeth.
How do you Oil pull?
How do you Oil pull? Well it is actually quite simple. After brushing your teeth in the morning, put about 1-2 tsp of oil in your mouth and hold it, lightly swishing if desired, for up to 20 minutes.
You can do less, but the longer you keep the oil in the better the results.
When you are done don’t swallow as this oil is full of the “toxins” as it is pulling from the oral cavities and salivary glands.
Because of the cleansing nature of this practice many people are reaping other benefits besides healthier teeth.
I have personally noticed it helps when I felt like I was coming down with a sore throat as it soothed the mucosal lining, causing less irritation which provided a lot of relief from the coughing.
Others have stated that they have seen old stitches come out from old dental surgeries or other obstructions that they didn’t even know were there.
I recently had some old root canal teeth removed and for some reason the dentist didn’t realize that she left a small chip from the tooth or crown in my mouth.
I didn’t know what it was and even when I went back in she said everything looked fine. It kept bothering me but I thought maybe it was just the bone and once the gums heal it will be fine. I was using the pulling oil every day to help with the healing process.
After about a month or so I put my finger on the little piece and noticed it was a little loose, I wiggled it low and behold this tiny shard came out!
Now I’m not stating that it was oil pulling per say but I do know it definitely helped soothe and heal the area.
So now you can see why they call it “Pulling oil” . It literally pulls toxins and obstructions out of the body through the mouth.
