Heart Tonic Syrup:
2 cup fresh or 1 cup dried hawthorn berries
2 cup fresh or 1 cup Dried Elderberries
1/2 cup dried rosehips preferably deseeded
1 tsp orange peel
3-4 cardamom pods
a few back peppercorns
1/2 cinnamon stick
5-10 pink rosebuds
Wildflower honey (I use around 1/4-1/3 of the volume of the syrup)
Hawthorn leaf/ flower tincture & Lemon Balm tincture (Add 20% of the final volume of liquid)
Bring the Hawthorn, Elder, and Rose-hips to a boil and turn down to simmer. After about 20 minutes, mash with a potato masher to get all the juices out of the berries. Continue to stir so it doesn’t stick or burn. At around 30 minutes add the Orange peel, B.peppercorns, and Cinnamon. Continue to stir and mash for 10 minutes. Next add the rosebuds and turn off the heat. Let it steep for 10 or so minutes. Strain into a clean pot and let cool before adding honey. Once cooled at the tinctures and bottle. Store in the fridge.
